Position Summary

The full-time Chemistry / Physical Science Instructor reports directly to the Chair of the Science Division and ultimately to the Dean of Instruction in the performance of various duties. These duties require a minimum of 35 hours of on-campus work per week and include the following kinds of responsibilities: instructional duties, duties to students, divisional duties, institutional duties, and personal and professional development activities.


Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Instructional Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provide syllabi and handouts explaining course objectives, content and procedures.

  • Plan , evaluate, and revise curricula, course content, course materials, and methods of instruction.

  • Prepare for each class and lab session.

  • Coordinates chemical safety procedures and appropriate chemical storage.

  • Comply with policies and procedures stated in first-day handouts.

  • Maintain timely reporting of student records.

  • Adhere to regular and punctual class sessions.

  • Develop , maintain, and teach courses in the classroom and online.

  • Remain current on advancements in technology and body of knowledge pertinent to area of instruction; modifies curricula and instructional delivery to maintain program currency.

  • Schedule and maintain the required number of office hours for student assistance.

  • Evaluate and return student work promptly.

  • Select and obtain materials and supplies such as textbooks.

Responsibilities to Students :

1. Treat all students in a respectful and impartial manner.

2. Be accessible to students outside of scheduled classes.

3. Provide Academic advisement to students regarding course selection, and scheduling consistent with their degree plans and career goals.

4. Ensure students follow safety procedures.

5. Accommodate students with documented disabilities

6. Promote leadership and enrichment experiences through student organizations and/or other activities as assigned

Divisional Responsibilities :

1. Attend and participate in divisional meetings

2. Cooperate with others to plan and meet divisional goals.

3. Provide input into curriculum and program development.

4. Prepare purchase requests needed for equipment, material and supplies

5. Participate in campus and community events.

6. Complete other tasks assigned by the division chairperson.

Institutional Responsibilities :

1. Adhere to and comply with the organizational structure and the policies of the College .

2. Cooperate with others to plan and meet the goals of the College

3. Attend and participate in College and faculty meetings.

4. Serve on academic or administrative committees that deal with institutional policies, developmental matters, and academic issues.

5. Support the College ’s mission, including the commitment to providing opportunities to students without regard to race, gender, age, income, religion, disability or occupation.

6. Participate in student recruitment, orientation, registration, and placement activities.

7. Complete other tasks assigned by the Dean of Instruction and/or the President .

Personal and Professional Development :

1. Participate in College sponsored professional development programs.

2. Identify areas where individual professional development is needed and procure resources to achieve necessary individual professional development. Travel may be required to other instructional sites, meetings, and conferences.

3. Maintain awareness of latest trends in the instructor’s discipline and the field of education as a whole.

4. Maintain awareness of latest trends in distance (specifically on-line) education.


Qualifications

Minimum of a Master ’s Degree with at least 18 graduate semester hours in the discipline of chemistry

OR

Ability to obtain Master ’s Degree with a minimum of 18 graduate semester hours in the discipline of biology by 8/15/2023.

SALARY:

Salary Schedule D1
$44,780-$87,562 (9-month) $$13,825-$27,081 (3-month - Summer ), to be determined by the applicant’s education and years of applicable experience. Applicant acknowledges that if selected for the position that applicant’s placement on the applicable salary schedule will be dependent upon the verified information provided.
