Chief of Grounds - Full - Time

Main location will be District Office , but will service District - Wide

POSITION OVERVIEW

The Chief of Grounds will provide leadership and supervision to the Grounds Department , as they perform a variety of work involving grounds and landscape maintenance of public access grounds, gardens, and sports fields.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

The following information is intended to describe the overall nature and scope of the work being performed in relation to the position.

IMPORTANT:

IMPORTANT:

Flexibility is important, as hours are subject to change.

Responsible for conducting evaluations of each team member.

Plays a major role in hiring, training,and dismissing all staff.

Approves and tracks sick and vacation time.

Maintains a written house cleaning and maintenance schedule.

Supervises snow removal and other projects as assigned.

Perform all grounds maintenance functions including mowing, weeding, snow plowing, trimming, watering, planting, and other related duties or assignments.

Applies approved fertilizers and pesticides.

Climbs and performs basic arborous functions.

Monitors health of all district plantings.

Plans , implements and maintains records of athletic field maintenance programs,

Placement and removal of various sports goals (soccer, hockey, etc).

Layout , mark, line or paint lines on sports fields for school athletic events.

Controls irrigation systems for uniformity of water application and maintenance of watering equipment.

And other related duties necessary for the operations and maintenance of the school district and its programs, including but not limited to snow removal, custodial work (as outlined in the custodial position guide), all aspects of vehicle maintenance and any or all other duties assigned by their supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Below are the qualifications for this position

Able to read, write, and understand instructions.

Have a current Class D driver’s license.

Demonstrate knowledge and physical ability to perform the tasks as outlined below.

Ability to operate lawn mowers, tractors, snow blowers/plows and other maintenance machinery used in the daily operation of the school district.

Basic knowledge of small and vehicular engine maintenance and repair.

Experience in establishing and maintaining natural grass fields.

Any other experience, education or combination which would be acceptable to the Board of Education showing or demonstrating that an applicant could successfully administer the duties as described below.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS The following provides a brief description of physical requirements for this position

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly talking, expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word.

Those activities in which they must convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly.

The employee must possess normal cognitive abilities including the ability to learn, recall and apply certain skills.

Ability to perform work requiring sustained moderate physical effort, operation of commercial food service equipment, movement of objects weighing 40-50 pounds and continuous standing.

PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS

The work of this nature is generally performed in a school kitchen and cafeteria environment.

PRE-EMPLOYMENT REQUIREMENTS

All persons employed by the Appoquinimink School District are required to submit a criminal background check and a tuberculosis test.

Anyone offered employment is required to provide the following: proper identification ( Social Security Card and Driver ’s License ), documentation of eligibility for employment in the U.S.A., completion of I-9 form, and completion of paperwork for the Delaware Child Protection Registry .
