Job Title : Heavy Equipment Mechanic - Technical Inspector

Location : Fort Rucker -AL

Reports to: Designated Supervisor

Position Summary

Performs Field and Sustainment Level Maintenance such as, but not limited to troubleshooting equipment, diagnosing system malfunctions, identifying corrective actions on servicing or repairs on military and commercial equipment as prescribed in the Technical Manuals (TM’s), Commercial Equipment and all other applicable manuals.

Essential Functions

  • Must have knowledge and experience in the use of the Logistics Information System (LIS) used with Maintenance and Global Combat Sustainment System - Army GCSS- Army .
  • Perform initial, during and final inspections in accordance with the standards to include, but not limited to AR 710-2, AR 735-5, AR 725-50, DA PAM 710-2-1, DA PAM 710-2-2, AR 750-8, DA PAM 750-8, Scope Of Work (SOW) & Performance Requirement Statement (PRS) under Performance Work Statement (PWS) – Material Maintenance sections 5.1-5.10 and all other applicable publications.
  • Prepare requisitions for procurement of materials and supplies to include, but not limited to Vendor Repair Parts , Vendor Contract Repairs , Bench Stock , Shop Stock , Petroleum Products (POL).
  • Ensure all Deficiencies and parts are annotated properly on all forms as required by Army Regulations and applicable policies and procedures.
  • Utilize established Maintenance Expenditure Limits (MEL) to evaluate economic feasibility of repair(s). Consider a variety of factors such as cost and availability of parts, man hours, and impact of time constraints on the mission to assess whether the repair is economical.
  • Maintain appropriate government required paperwork such as, but not limited to, DA Form 2407, DA Form 2404 and files ( Job Packets ) necessary for the maintenance and repair of the equipment,
  • Diagnose system malfunctions, Isolate causes, and correct deficiencies, Dismantle and reassemble equipment, using Technical Manual (TM’s) and/or Electronic Technical Manuals (EMT’s).
  • Inspect complex, interrelated mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, electronic and electrical systems, equipment and their components while in operation or in a stand by condition.
  • Inspect equipment to determine repairs needed using specially designed testing methods and test equipment such as, but not limited to, computerized tests sets, precision gauges, electronic sensors, injector test stands and engine scopes.
  • Ensure that all components needed for repair are properly identified by using, but not limited to, Technical Manuals , Commercial Manuals , Old Part Number to New Part Number verification, Part to Vendor verification.
  • Must become familiar with some but not limited to the following types of equipment, sub-systems, support equipment and related systems such as, cranes, pumps, compressors, and a wide assortment of wheel vehicles that are below or above the 7 ½ -ton weight limit including trailers that accompany the prime mover, if required.
  • Must be capable of assisting in repairing equipment to Army standards using the appropriate, to include but not limited to Technical Manuals (TM), Commercial Off the Shelf (COTS) Manuals and all other applicable manuals.
  • Have a working knowledge of how to operate lifting devices, hand and pneumatic tools. Repair and replace components, engines, transmission and sub-assemblies.
  • Assist team members in solving maintenance problems by analysis and troubleshooting.
  • Engage in cleaning parts and assisting with assembly and disassembly of equipment.
  • May assist other inspectors on Command Maintenance Evaluation Teams (COMET) and/or as a member of Maintenance Assistance and Instruction Teams (MAIT).
  • Assist in performing additional duties such as, but not limited to Key Control , HAZMAT Coordinator , Site Specific Spill Plan Coordinator , Fire Marshall , special project management, maintenance of facilities and equipment or to serve as a member of a team to cope with natural disasters or civil emergencies as required.
  • Provides preventative maintenance for all equipment associated with the performance of maintenance where applicable. Maintain shop keeping and physical image of shop.

Minimum Requirements

  • Must have working knowledge of Global Combat Sustainment System – Army (GCSS- Army )
  • Must be capable of lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling loads up to 50 lbs. Must be able to climb, crawl, bend, squat, and reach as required to work on equipment.
  • Maintain tools and equipment, and clean work areas to maintain a safe work environment. Be able to work outside in inclement weather conditions when necessary.
  • Ensure that all tasks are performed safely and meet Government / Army standards when applicable.
  • Wearing safety items of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) e.g. gloves, safety shoes, protective eyewear, hearing protection, and other items such as aprons or outerwear as appropriate.
  • Employee is required to maintain a valid state-issued Driver ’s License and applicable Government / Army License .
  • Perform other duties as required to support the mission and contractual requirements.

  • Ability to complete and prioritize tasks on multiple concurrent projects within given and timeframes.
